Hand-plying cord on a spinning wheel
General Information:

Thank you for checking in with us. You can now visit our FaceBook Stream page for periodic updates and look back to see how things have progressed.

To maintain the level of quality, which folks have been increasingly requesting, Darin continues to personally make the cordage and cinches. Please remember that this is only true for cinches carried by the ArtCords' authorized dealers, which have no other manufacturer named on the label, as well as those you purchase direct from us. Visit our Authorized Dealers page for more information. (link toward the bottom of this page)

Cord update:
Yarns and cords are being hand-plied for all custom cord orders and during upgrades and modifications to the newest cord equipment we have developed. Cordage production continues to be ramped-up as more yarns are acquired and future orders are lined up.

Over-hauling a couple of our custom made machines (opperate much like spining wheels) for plying the yarns was completed in November and it has been refreshing to be back on task, experiencing quieter, more efficient twisting of the yarns. You can gain a visual of various cord runs in our FaceBook stream (link on the navigation bar to the upper-left)

It is an honor to provide what many of our customers have identified as "top quality" mohair cords and detailing yarns found anywhere in today's market. With the growing popularity of our dyed honey and honey with color fleck and patterns, we have managed to refine the resulting products to more closely match our ultimate goals. By offering several diameters of plied cordage with specific end uses in mind, folks are now finding it possible to use mohair for an increased number of durable-goods projects. Please remember that we must meet substantial minimum quantities of custom single yarns with very few mills in the world managing to even come close to our specifications. For this reason we encourage you to plan well in advance for your cord needs and contact us with any questions you may have. Since the industry 'standard' for custom yarn production ranges from over 6 months to more than a year, and cinch cords have been known to take several years to obtain from the few large producers, we are pleased to be offering custom mohair cords with a uniquly different twist and pattern capability than others in the market.

Cinches, Breast Collars and Hitched Ropes:
Individually produced personally by Darin Alexander in our Northwest Arkansas studio. Each item is made of our popular 96% mohair and 4% wool, unless otherwise noted. Hitched ropes do currently employ a specially configured, non-slip core of 100% adult mohair. These items are crafted with the same attention to detail as those purchased from Darin by many of today's leading clinicians and Equine trainer's which use them daily around the world. Each order is carefully completed and shipped in as rapid a manner as they can safely be made through our proprietary system of hand-processing new single yarns into the detailing yarns and cords. Please continue to allow several weeks for completion of cinches since the order volume from dealers and direct sales does vary considerably from week to week.

Order payment:
Given the unique nature of our hand-processing of mohair from custom single yarns for all orders, reciept of funds is required prior to us setting aside your order's quantity of materials. Credit card payments, through our secure online store, are preferred allowing us to process your order more quickly while money orders, business or personal checks must clear the bank before the materials are set aside for scheduling. Returned checks for insuficient funds will incure a $30.00 fee.

Presentaions/Training/Classes with Darin:
Over the 2010 Thanksgiving weekend, in the Kansas City area, and at the 2011 Minnesota Horse Expo we shared a powerpoint presentations with current and prospective cinch students. Such a presentation provides folks an opportunity to compare cords of known fiber content, discuss cinch alignment and measurements, as well as use of colors and cinch styles/techniques. We enjoy the interaction with groups and meeting folks who have caught the cinch making bug. So let us know if you have an opportunity for us to share, whether a seminar style, powerpoint, or workshop, we'd be happy to discuss what it would take to participate.

For those of you who may be passing through Northwest Arkansas, live in the region, or would like to increase your understanding of cinch making, Darin is accepting students on an individual and small group basis for professional and advanced cinch training. Fees vary depending upon length of instruction and/or the project(s) you desire to learn. Feel free to e-mail us with detailed inquiries and we will arrange a time to speak by phone.

Shipping note:
DVD's and in-stock materials generally ship within 5 to 10 business days and often are out the door in a couple of days. Custom supplies, such as hand-plied cords and/or hand-dyed mohair will depend on quantity and colors desired. For cinch making materials that are not completed and ready to ship, we will contact you prior to processing the payment if any items are expected to take more than 10 or 12 business days to ship. With cinches and hitched ropes you should expect 4 to 6 weeks to ship unless we have estimated a different timing when speaking with you on the phone.

Please remember that we are horse owners as well as running this home-based business full-time. While we have other areas of interest and involvement in the community, our primary objective is to support the need for quality mohair products and training. We appreciate your support in this endeavor and welcome your comments and questions which will be responded to at our earliest convenience.
Kindest regards,
Darin Alexander
